How do you play Hooverball?

Teams of up to five members field three players at a time on a court measuring 30 feet by 66 feet and use a four- or six-pound medicine ball. Play begins when the server throws the ball over the eight-foot net. The opponent must catch the ball on the fly and immediately return it. It is scored like tennis, and the side that misses the ball or throws it out of bounds loses the point.

 

Good sportsmanship is required. There are no officials and points in question are played over.

- It just came to my attention that there is going to be 100-200 people at the fight gone challenge in Roseburg.  I'm going down there for sure.  This is going to be a blast, whos coming with me??

-  I created a facebook fan page.  Type in Eugene Crossfit in the search window to find it.  There will be all kinds of new pictures, videos, discussion, news, etc.  Join up.  For the 100th member to join I will make it worth your while!

-  For yesterdays workout, "Barbera", when you post it to beyondthewhiteboard, subtract the 12 minutes of rest so you can be ranked with the rest of the site.

- Also, on tuesday I said incorrectly that travis used 15# dumbells for his lunges.  I was wrong.  He used 30 pounders and did the whole workout as RX.  Impressive!  Want to know something else impressive?  Carrie, Hardersen, Travis, Devin, Daren and Josh doing Barbera yesterday as RX.  Congrats!

- This saturday, who wants to go down to Roseburg to Cowboy Crossfit to do Fight Gone Bad IV?  Lets try to fill up my van to make it worthwhile.

-  Halloween is on a Saturday this year!  Would a morning workout be funner or an evening at the old Crossfit Gym park and take the kids trick or treating after?
 

Val's worked hard on her running technique over the past couple months.

If you'd like to work on your running technique, lets set up a time.  If you hate running, I'd love to spend some time working with you and getting you more efficient so you enjoy it.  It's difficult to teach in a large group setting - with limitied amount of time.  Plan n about 45 minutes to an hour on a day that you're not doing your WOD.

I'm thinking of getting rid of the 7:15pm time.  It was hugely popular during the summertime, but now it's slow.  Anyone only available during that time?

Also, sorry for being such a pain in the ass on yesterdays crossfit total.  "Squats too low...", "nope, doesn't count, knees were dipping on the press."  I feel like such a jerk sometimes, but its a good thing when I tell you, right?

Oh and 32 burpees for whoever doesn't wish me a happy birthday tomorrow! =)

If you have knee pain, make sure you have adequate flexibility all througout your legs.  As Kelly Starett says, "Create some slack." 

Are your calves tight?  Quads?  Hamstring?  Stretch that stuff out.  A good way to stretch it out is to roll it out with a foam roller.

Same thing with shoulders.  Gotta losen that up. 

I know you hate stretching.  Its boring.  Who cares.  It's easy.  Do at least 2x a day. 
 
Someone was in awe looking at Natalie's scores on the leader board yesterday.

You might get a chance to meet her, but you wont see her for long because shes really really fast.

- If you have grip or wrist strength issues.  I've got a bucket of sand for you to do drills with.  On the lid is a list of instructions.  It should take you 5-7 minutes to get thru all the instructions.

- The gymnastics cert was amazing.  I learned how to teach some movements better, as well as a bunch of new movements too. You can look forward to learning lots of stuff because we will be implementing it right away.  These movements are scalable for every level and super fun.  Be ready to learn how to spot each other!

-  Our shirts are in!  They look great!  I do fear that the women's sizes that were pre-ordered may be too small for you.  We have brainstormed lots of ways to make it fair for those that pre-ordered to help them get the shirts they want.  Here's how we'll do it:
  •  Monday, those that pre-ordered shirts can get the size they ordered.
  • Tuesday, those that pre-ordered shirts who didn't get a shirt because it was too small for them, can get a bigger size if there is one available.
  • Wednesday, anyone can buy whats left.
  • We'll put in another order for shirts for those that didn't get what they wanted ASAP!
Shirts will be $20 - A $5 discount to members of ecrossfit.  If you preordered a shirt, try to be here on monday or tuesday or your shirt might be gone. 
 

From now on, Josh is in charge of KettleBell Swings while Heather is in charge of Handstand Pushups. =)

Ok.  Gordon requested some advice on burpees.  When you go down into the pushup portion of the burpee, a lot of times your elbows flare to the outsides.  This works the shoulders pretty good, and if you don't have good flexibility and do a lot of burpees your shoulders are going to be on fire.

Instead of flaring shoulders to the outside, keep your arms and elbows in at your sides.  A lot like a tricep pushup.  This should help reduce stress on your shoulder.

Also.  If your having shoulder issues ice, ice, ice.  Try to get some ice on it right after the WOD.  I have some in my freezer ready to go.

And I hate to be a nag.  But its so tempting right after a really hard WOD to fall on your back and lie there for 20 minutes.  Try to get up and move around.  Get that acid out of your body so you can recover quickly and don't have kinks the next day.  Stretch.  This is the best time to increase flexibility.  Eventually we'll probably have group cooldown and stretching, but for now YOU are going to have to be disciplined about it.

I added a new class - 'Coach Stec Training time'.  This is a workout time that I will be working out, you are welcome to come workout with me - but there will be limited to no coaching and instruction during the WOD.  Level I certified coaches you are welcome, if you would like, to swing in and practice your coaching skills on me and the others that show up during this time.  I need as much coaching as I can get!

Class size will be smaller for safety reasons.

On September 26th, Eugene Crossfit is invited to participate in Cowboy Crossfit's (in Roseburg) Fight Gone Bad Challenge.  Its a fundraiser for a great cause.   Sign up and read more details here.   The friday night before, they've invited us to camp and have fun - with the WOD at 10:00am.

Don't try Eugene Crossfit if you want to keep the drudgery in your workouts. There are plenty of workout plans that deliver little results, are boring, and don't really have a goal in mind.

Crossfit is very bothersome for people who like workouts like these.
